Better Cooking With A Wireless BBQ Thermometer
September 17, 2010 Camping Recipes
A wireless BBQ thermometer is designed to measure the temperature of the food inside the grill or oven so that you know if it’s cooked, still cooking or already burning. If you’re used to guessing whether or not the food inside your oven or your grill is cooked, then you know you need a wireless BBQ thermometer badly. Let’s face it, the meat inside the grill needs the heat and the time to cook well.
You cannot hurry the food cooking or else it will be too raw or too burnt. Without a way to know for sure if the food is cooked, you end up opening the grill or oven too often, making the food less cooked or extending the cooking time. If you think about it, the main “chore” involved in cooking is making sure the meat is done right. You can use a wireless BBQ thermometer to tell you whether or not you should already turn off the heat in the oven or get the BBQ meat out of the oven.
What can you expect from a good wireless BBQ thermometer?
Your wireless BBQ thermometer should promise you decent range. Your main purpose for buying a wireless BBQ thermometer is for you to move about and still know exactly what’s going on inside the grill where your meat is cooking. This means, you should be able to receive signals from the wireless BBQ thermometer even if you’re in the kitchen and the grill is outside. You don’t want to be stuck hanging around the backyard when there’s work to be done inside just because you have to monitor the cooking of the meat.
A good range for a wireless BBQ thermometer is 10 to 100 feet. You can always test the range first before deciding if you should return it or not. Take note that metal doors or bulky oak furniture could interfere with the signal. Additionally, make sure the transmitter and receiver are properly showing the same calibration.
Accuracy is important. The thermometer is supposed to give you the precise cooking status of your food. You don’t want to end up with charred meat just because the wireless BBQ thermometer was not able to alert you when your meat was already cooked. Moreover, you don’t want to assume that your meat is already cooked when it’s still raw just because the thermometer is inaccurate. Bad cooking can sometimes be caused by faulty kitchen gadgets.

You will possibly find that it’s not accurate enough and is calibrated over too high a temperature range. Cooking takes place over a range of 100-250F and a degree of inaccuracy of + or – 10F is not critical. Cooking thermometers will reflect this.
